For the past two years, text annotations have been operating as a beta feature on a select number of Kinja blogs - Jalopnik, Kotaku and Lifehacker to name a few.

While we've loved watching users annotate their own stories, make a fun post a little bit sillier, and leave a note in support of an author's argument, our current implementation of text annotations is not where we want it to be.

While we spend time rethinking paragraph-level discussions from the ground up, we're going to sunset the current feature.

What does this mean for my old annotations?

Your existing annotations will still exist in the replies of the post where you left them, along with their supporting excerpt. But, we're removing the number icons accompanying each paragraph and the ability to leave new text annotations.

Thank you to everyone who experimented with text annotations and for all of your feedback. We're going to use it to create something great for you and the rest of the Kinja community.
